Denmore Stores offers Seasons Greetings

Denmore Stores is well known as a store that cares for the community they serve. Angela Sykes, the owner, is a volunteer flood warden ,amongst other community activities she involves herself in, and is well aware of the need for the current East Rhyl Coastal Defence works following the devastating flood of 2013

Although the construction works do cause disruption to the local residents lives there is great support for the work to defend against future flooding. The workforce have to work at unsociable hours around the tide patterns, in all weathers, whilst observing all Covid 19 restrictions and guidance. A difficult balance to maintain.

At this time of year Denmore Stores and the volunteer flood wardens wished to say Thank You to the workforce for their hard work and dedication in such difficult circumstances. Shown in the picture is Angela Sykes and Seann Sykes of Denmore Stores, with Paul Smith the Public Liaison Officer for Balfour Beatty, receiving a small gift at Christmas as a recognition of all their hard work.

The East Rhyl Coastal Defence Scheme will reduce the risk of coastal flooding in the Garford Road area of East Rhyl.

The East Rhyl Coastal Defence Scheme is led by Denbighshire County Council, with support from the Welsh Government. Balfour Beatty has been appointed as the main contractor to deliver the Coastal Defence Scheme, and is currently working with Denbighshire County Council, and the Environmental and Engineering Consultancy JBA Consulting through early design and development works.

The project will involve the construction of a rock revetment structure immediately in front of the existing sea wall, with improvements to the existing wall over a length of around four hundred metres, from Splash Point heading East.

The East Rhyl Project will expand upon the recently completed flood storage works completed by Denbighshire County Council since the coastal flood event in 2013.
